The house playbook, in plain English
This is the order most experienced Torn investors deploy fresh capital in, paraphrased from long-running community guides plus the mechanics this page reads live from the Torn API. It isn't a law of physics — prices, item values, and your own perks all shift the exact numbers — but it's a sane default when you're not sure what to do next.
- Keep a working cash buffer. Don't empty your wallet chasing yield — keep enough on hand for busts, travel, or an item you need today.
- Fill the City Bank toward its base cap ($2,000,000,000). If your bankroll is still small, start on short terms (1–2 weeks) and stretch the term out as your balance grows, rather than locking a small amount away for months.
- Buy Bank Interest merits when they're available. Each level is a permanent +5% multiplier on every dollar sitting in step 2, so it compounds the value of everything after it. Some players choose to spend a merit point or two elsewhere (education time, for example) instead of maxing this first — there's no single right split, it depends on what you're optimizing for.
- Climb the dividend stock-block ladder by ROI, not by ticker popularity. Each active stock's benefit block roughly doubles in share cost per level while the payout per increment stays flat, so the marginal ROI shrinks with every extra level — Block 1 on a strong stock usually beats Block 3 on the same stock. Once the City Bank is full and you've got more spare cash than fits, a common sequencing trick is to pull out just enough for the next block, then go straight back to refilling the bank. The Next Moves and Dividends tabs already run this math live against your budget.
- Rent a Private Island before you buy one. A rental gets you the airstrip and happiness benefits immediately without tying up capital that's still earning a better return in steps 2–4. Community estimates put smaller rental islands around 12% annual ROI and larger tiers closer to 16% — solid, if rarely the single best rung on this ladder. One practical catch: rental income sits with you as cash while you're away, which is liquidity a mugger can see, so don't let it stack up unspent.
- Buy the Private Island later. Once the bank and the high-ROI blocks are largely done, ownership stops competing with a better use of that cash.
A lower-effort alternative some players prefer to hunting individual benefit blocks: spread a fixed amount evenly across many stocks and hold for a while. It's historically been described as a gentler, if usually smaller, return than either active trading or a fully optimized benefit-block ladder.

Specific rates and prices quoted in those guides are snapshots from whenever they were written — Torn's economy moves, so treat the priority order as the durable part and re-check live numbers yourself.

Methodology & Guide Logic
This is the firm's profit-order playbook: dividend stock blocks are ranked by estimated incremental annual ROI using live Torn prices, while banking, merits, and Private Island steps are inserted where the guide logic says capital efficiency matters most.
Where the numbers come from
Live prices come straight from the Torn API (/torn/stocks) every 60 seconds — never cached longer than that. Benefit thresholds and share-block sizes are mirrored from the Torn Wiki's Stock Market page. Dividend payout values are read live from the "Full Data" / "Tier List" / "Bonus Stocks" tabs of the community dividend spreadsheet whenever that sheet's public CSV export is reachable from your browser; if it isn't, the page quietly falls back to a conservative built-in payout table so the tool still works. Check the Dividend Desk tab's status line to see which source is currently in play.
The step-by-step priority order (bank → merits → stock blocks → PI rental → PI purchase) and the "cost roughly doubles, ROI roughly halves per increment" pattern used for the strategic rows below are paraphrased from Torn community investment guides, including the three threads linked below. Where those guides quoted specific rates or prices (City Bank APR, Private Island rental income, Cayman's monthly rate), that's a snapshot from whenever the guide was written, not a live figure — this page's own tables pull the live number wherever the API and spreadsheet can supply one, and fall back to the community's modeled logic only where they can't.

Mechanics worth knowing before you buy
None of this changes the ranked numbers below, but it changes when you should act on them:
- Passive benefits vest for 7 days. Hitting the share threshold doesn't switch the perk on instantly — you need to hold at least that many shares for seven days before it activates. This page shows your current share level based on live holdings; it can't see whether Torn's own 7‑day timer has finished.
- Active dividends give you a 24‑hour window to collect. Once a payout is ready, claiming it resets the countdown to the next one — but if you let it sit unclaimed past 24 hours, it delays your next payout. Don't let a payout go stale.
- You can't jump to a higher increment mid-countdown. If you buy enough shares to reach the next block while a payout timer is already running, the upgrade won't apply until after you collect the current payout. To upgrade immediately instead of waiting, you'd need to sell down and rebuy at the higher increment, which resets the timer right away — a real trade-off, not free.
- Selling costs a small handling fee. Torn charges a fee on stock-market sales, so if you're trading for price movement rather than farming a benefit block, only sell once the price has moved enough to clear that fee — otherwise a "profitable" sale can net you less than you started with.
- Torn City Investments (the 10% bank-interest stock) can be cycled instead of held permanently. Some players only buy in for the final 7 days before each banking term ends, hold just long enough to vest the perk, then sell — freeing that capital for the rest of the cycle at the cost of two small transaction fees (buy + sell) instead of one. Whether that's worth it depends on what else that capital could be earning in the meantime.
